There is no place to park, but it will soon be over. The Dali always suffers in attendance because of this - and shouod be compensated.<br />

Studio or art-making space was a concern then, and remains a core thread in this story. Carrie returned to Florida, and taught Art at a charter school. She experienced frustrations with access for students, particularly how they were punished by being removed from Art class, Questions of access to art, spaces, materials and wall space persisted, along with other, more philosophicai questions about identity as an artist, all part of the bus idea and the Neighborhood Oriented Mobile Art and Design Studio, NOMAD. Carrie was on new ground, and had to redefine herself to do this. Social Practice Artist is the term she uses.<br />
<br />
"There is no wrong way to be an Artist"<br />
--- Carrie Boucher <br />
<br />
Carrie began looking for a bus, the community responded, a generous offer was made, which included labor and bus. Volunteers emerged, now totaling 160-plus. From certified Art teachers to those who wash the bus, they are a community committed to the idea. The first bus, named Nuri, has contracts with schools, half way houses, and foster homes. Nuri was recently superseded by a new bus, acquired via social fundraising This funds the other places NOMAD serves in the community. You see it at festivals, full of children insde happily making art, being taught.and the bus is not just a mobile space, but a rolling canvas, covered with their art, Fantastic stuff, to see smiling children, focused and creating, Carrie tells me she would like to expand operations, with multiple buses and serving a much wider area. On a personal level, whe wants to do an installation involving metalsmithing, preferably on an island. This is a community-shifting paradigm, supported by the community itself, which is why Carrie Boucher is Art Taco's Arts Person of the Year for 2017.Luishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14942782882001678270noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6052674447669484835.post-25621023976420396052017-02-11T11:14:00.000-08:002017-02-11T11:14:10.649-08:00This Weekend, 2/11/2-17 <img alt="No automatic alt text available." class="spotlight" src="https://scontent.ftpa1-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/16195571_684290525076658_3127651384936643457_n.jpg?oh=1b1e855e9d7e30911dc7f4f19be85457&oe=593899C3" /><br />

presents over 40 galleries and studios in the Waterfront Arts, Central
Arts District, The EDGE District of St. Petersburg, Grand Central
District Association and the Warehouse Arts District coming together as
one arts destination.<br /> <br /> Be the first to see new affordable works
of art, as ArtWalk is Opening Night where many galleries and studios
premiere new works. Some are only open on ArtWalk, and many offer
demonstrations and refreshments. It’s impossible to take in the entire
ArtWalk in one night! Plan to drive, walk, or take the trolleys to visit
the districts of your choice.<br /> <br /> Our free trolley shuttles will have an art guide on board talking about each venue on our one co<span class="text_exposed_show">ntinuous
trolley loop. You can park for free on 1st Ave N and 1st Ave S from
15th St to 30th Street. Additional parking will be available for trolley
riders in the vacant lot at the Northeast corner of Central Avenue and
29th Street (Please note that this is NOT one of our trolley stops). In
addition, venues with large free parking lots are Soft Water Studios,
the Morean Center for Clay at the Train Station, the Clay Center of St.
Petersburg, and the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum.<br /> <br />
The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance, the Arts Association St. Petersburg
Inc., the EDGE District, the Grand Central District, and the Warehouse

explores the intersection of culture, identity, and human behavior.
Saori describes her work in "Mark Making" as a symbiotic time-lapse of

Featuring the artwork of Paul Houzell. Paul's work is strongly inspired
by the human figure. He is an artist, teacher and lecturer seriously
concerned with humanitarianism, spiritualism and education. He seeks to
communicate the importance of a cultural identity, especially with young
African Americans and Latinos, to show the valuable role art should
play in orchestrating world change by improving communication between
them and all people worldwide. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/WoodsonMuseum/?fref=ts" rel="nofollow">https://www.facebook.com/<wbr></wbr><span class="word_break"></span>WoodsonMuseum/?fref=ts</a><br /> <br /> <a data-hovercard="/ajax/hovercard/page.php?id=218184598375865&extragetparams=%7B%22directed_target_id%22%3A127087234419660%7D" href="https://www.facebook.com/gallerie909/">Gallerie 909</a>
- 909 22nd Street South - Opening Reception: Darwin Leon - Fish Out of
Water. See scenic images that portray the nature of expressive design
through the movement of action and textured aspects. With a sharp sense
of humor and figurative imagination, Darwin Leon details the social
context of pseudo-political, human involvement with a gift for enhanced
form and characterization. Displaying the imbalances of society with a
satirical perspective, his artistic creations animate the
discontinuities of the post industrial order. Leon's paintings play on
the interpersonal deceptions that move a society. Even though this movie has its funny moments, it's not really a comedy.
In spite of the explicit comments about Ms. Foster Jenkins' awareness
of her talent, the truth is that she had suffered vast nerve damage from
a medicinal side effect. This movie is an excellent exploration of what
it means to be an artist, and how art works its magic. See this. Yes,
La Streep is magnificent, so is Hugh Grant and the supporting cast. One
scene (two people in an apartment playing the piano) blasted clear my

Selina checks into various motels, most with classic Floridian touches,
dresses (or undresses) her subjects, who are friends. The character of
the rooms turns them into subjects as opposed to (the oft-used)
temporary studio use by notable fashion photographers. There's a
conceptual tension between stereotypical Floridian nostalgia and the
contemporary costuming and posing of the subjects. Many have erotic
overtones. Some leave the room. It's a subtropical pastiche with a
tumultuous, unstable edge that works and is remarkably consistent with
tantalizing variations mixed in. Make time to take in this show.<br />

(KSPL) is partnering with the arts districts for August for the fourth
consecutive year. Olga Bof, KSPL’s Founder/Executive Director states,
“We’ve supported the monthly ArtWalk since our launch, as our
Independent Business Alliance has included artists, art
galleries/studios, museums and other cultural institutions among its
members from day one. Our mission is to work to build a thriving local
economy and a unique<span class="text_exposed_show"> community, and the
arts are very important to St. Pete. Keep Saint Petersburg Local is
happy to return as a sponsor of the “Shop Local” ArtWalk for this fourth
year.” <br /> <br /> Be the first to see new affordable works of art, as
ArtWalk is Opening Night where many galleries and studios premiere new
works. Some are only open on ArtWalk, and many offer demonstrations and
refreshments. It’s impossible to take in the entire ArtWalk in one
night! Plan to drive, walk, or take the trolleys to visit the districts
of your choice.<br /> <br /> Our free trolley shuttles will have an art
guide on board talking about each venue on our one continuous trolley
loop. You can park for free on 1st Ave N and 1st Ave S from 15th St to
30th Street. Additional parking will be available for trolley riders in
the vacant lot at the Northeast corner of Central Avenue and 29th Street
(Please note that this is NOT one of our trolley stops). In addition,
venues with large free parking lots are Soft Water Studios, the Morean
Center for Clay at the Train Station, the Clay Center of St. Petersburg,
and the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum.<br /> <br /> The St.
Petersburg Arts Alliance, the Arts Association St. Petersburg Inc., the
EDGE District, the Grand Central District, and the Warehouse Arts
District associations coordinate St. Petersburg’s Second Saturday
ArtWalk. The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance strives to be the community
voice, the umbrella organization for the arts -- facilitating artists,
arts organizations and creative businesses to work collaboratively;
empowering the growth of the arts community, and driving arts-related
economic development.<br /> <br /> Browse, watch and purchase “Where Art is Made”!<br /> <br /> Be on the lookout for two red trolleys! Download your ArtWalk map using the ticket link above.<br /> <br /> Trolley starts here at 5pm<br /> <a data-hovercard="/ajax/hovercard/page.php?id=158706022997&extragetparams=%7B%22directed_target_id%22%3A1155387851169561%7D" href="https://www.facebook.com/Craftsman-House-Gallery-158706022997/">Craftsman House Gallery</a>

<span class="fsl"><span class="_4n-j fsl">The Leslie Curran Gallery @ ARTicles proudly
presents the exhibition GOOD VIBRATIONS: Richard Seidel & Alison
Sigethy in conjunction with St Pete's 2nd Saturday ArtWalk on Saturday,
August 13th, 6-9pm. <br /> <br /> The exhibition pairs Richard Seidel's
lively figurative paintings inspired by coastal trips and artist
residencies in Venice and Madrid with Alison Sigethy's innovative
kinetic glass sculptures, Sea Cores, which combine water, light, bubbles
and glass to reflect the dazzling visual array of deep sea
environments.<br /> <br /> Extensive travel, particularly in idyllic artist
residencies, has afforded Richard Seidel the opportunity to paint in
some of the most luxurious destinations in the world. His compositions
of people a<span class="text_exposed_show">t leisure, mostly frolicking on the beach or gathering in familiar tourist spots, exude an optimistic spirit. <br /> <br />
Seidel's gestural scenes, in the spirit of early 20th century French
painter Raoul Dufy, remind us of our own travel memories, yet the
figures and details have qualities that suggest a more romantic time.
Subtle details like striped swimming attire and festooned hats hint at
19th century paintings of the leisure class, on location in some of the
most fashionable places in Europe.<br /> <br /> Alison Sigethy's sculptures
appears simultaneously natural and other-worldly. These cylindrical
shaped sculptures are inspired by coral reef core-drilling, which
scientists utilize to extract geological samples in the study of the
diverse ecology and geology of a coral reef ecosystem. As her artistic
tribute to the beauty and mystery of the sea, she incorporates varied
textures and subtleties of glass thoughtfully stacked with a sensitivity
to natural organic arrangement.<br /> <br /> Incorporating light and
movement into the piece creates a multi-dimensional experience,
immersing the surrounding environment with a relaxing glow and the sound
of effervescence. The artist explains, "I like things that move. I have
always been fascinated by the patterns, rhythms, and randomness of
motion, so, I use movement — both physical and optical — to animate my
work. I'm not simply trying to catch the viewer's attention, but their
imagination, as well."<br /> ____________<br /> <br /> Richard Seidel's
paintings have been exhibited extensively in St Petersburg and Tampa, as
well as Miami and Los Angeles, and the artist is represented by
galleries in Sarasota, FL and Columbus, OH. He was honored with an Award
of Distinction from the Morean Arts Center and completed the
prestigious Creative Capital Foundation Program, NY in 2013. Artist
residencies include El Enclave Academia de Arte in Madrid in 2015 and
Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice in 2016. The artist is
awaiting the announcement of an upcoming residency at Château de La
Napoule in France next year. <br /> <br /> Alison Sigethy received
bachelor's degrees in Art History and Interior Design from Marymount
University in Virginia. She is on the faculty at the Washington Arts
Glass School, and is a Resident Artist at the acclaimed Torpedo Factory
in Alexandria, Virginia. Alison has exhibited her work nationally, and
her sculptures have appeared in numerous publications, including the USA
Today, Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, and American Craft
Magazine.<br /> <br /> GOOD VIBRATIONS opens on the evening of August 13th, 6-9 pm and continues through September 3rd,</span></span></span><br />

At this event, a "Christian Rapper" got onstage and basically preached to the audience while feebly simulating rap. The last performer did undisguised far-right propaganda that rhymed somewhat. <br />
Both lacked any semblance of creativity or grace. They were obvious propagandist political operatives (or lone nuts). Tampa is at the end of the I-4 corridor, birthplace of the Tea Party and a conservative hotspot. I know these things are open to the public, and there's no way to exclude them, which is why I will be bringing my earbuds so I can listen to music and block these people out.<br />
When I want to be preached to, I'll choose a church. For political right-wing propaganda. I'll turn FOX News on.<br />

Strands of Sunshine<br />
<span class="_4n-j fsl">Hello, boys and girls! Do you enjoy frolicking
in nature? Or pitching a tent on soft grass and fragrant pine needles?
Is your favorite scent summer breeze? If you answered yes, then your
visual senses might be tickled silly by this whimsical medley of art
inspired by my camping and hiking trips and general lollygagging in the
great outdoors. <br /> <br /> Strands of Sunshine is tickled to be welcoming

Cole Miles this Saturday during ArtWalk! Cole will set up shop and
feature his handcrafted cutting boards, butcher blocks and small
homegoods made from hardwoods such as maple, cherry and walnut. Cole
will be with us Saturday night only, so please come by and meet this

<span class="_4n-j fsl">St. Petersburg's Second Saturday ArtWalk
presents over 40 galleries and studios in the Waterfront Arts, Central
Arts District associations coordinate St. Petersburg’s Second Saturday
ArtWalk. The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance strives to be the community
voice, the umbrella organization for the arts -- facilitating artists,
arts organizations and creative businesses to work collaboratively;
empowering the growth of the arts community, and driving arts-related
economic development.<br /> <br /> Browse, watch and purchase “Where Art is Made”!<br /> <br /> Be on the lookout for two red trolleys! <img alt="" class="spotlight" src="https://scontent.ftpa1-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13631583_10154236588937508_8970819662295053467_n.jpg?oh=903d5af3ec55ff60fa6d606e7f46206f&oe=5833FBF2" /><br />
[All work shown by Maria Bevilacqua] <br />
<br />
Maria Bevilacqua has that observant, alert look that seasoned photographers acquire. Her work takes up half the wallspace in FMoPA's Community's New Visions Landscape themed show.<br />
[Amy Martz's architectural details make up the other half.]<br />
Bevilacqua's work is in varying long, wide. panoramic formats. This series began when she was traveling with an Holga medium format film camera, which has separate film transport and shutter release controls. She made several multiple exposures across where several frames would have been normally. They were developed, looked at, and put in a drawer, where they stayed for over five years.<br />
<br />
<img alt="" class="spotlight" src="https://scontent.ftpa1-2.fna.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/s843x403/13584703_10154236588987508_2217159296338537307_o.jpg" style="height: 129px; width: 660px;" /> <br />
<br />
<br />
Maria was born in Pittsburgh, to an amateur photographer father, and went to college in Indiana, where she graduated with an emphasis on painting and printing. Her family had a house in Florida, and they traveled frequently during her formative years.In between, there were two marriages, and significantly, photographic workshops with Duane Michals, whose photographic sequences laced with text are famous in the photographic world. He told her her goal should be "to change photography", a very high bar for anyone.<br />
In these landscapes (including some in the city), not only are there multiple image overlays, all of them are in multiple POVs and perspectives as well, with their own rhythm.<br />
<br />
<img alt="" class="spotlight" src="https://scontent.ftpa1-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/13599905_10154236589047508_3267586456552469126_n.jpg?oh=0732f7c6b5cf1a5ae374cee3a00313c7&oe=57EB32DB" /> <br />
<br />
A movie is a sequence of frames. A photograph is a slice of time stacked, These are both Conceptually similar to Chinese scrolls in many ways. Superficially, these are complex landscapes, but they are also innerscapes. Maria tells me they reflect on the photographer's personal emotional status, not in a direct, self-conscious manner, but in a transparent flow. <br />
Maria's work comes from a painter's background more than a photographic one. This is evident in the subjects and themes. They are visually coherent, and have a smooth, creamy quality to them. Viewers are challenged to surrender conventional monotaxic, single perspective vision in order to enter these works, and are rewarded for it with resonant imagery that connects them with the artist and their own lives.. <br />
