Gasparilla Festival of the Arts @ Curtis Hixon Park - Yes, it's that tie of the year again, when the tents return to Curtis Hixon waterside park, and below them a huge variety of artworks and the talented people who make them. 230 artists competing for a share of $74,500 in prizes, amongst them the $15,000 Best of Show prize. There's a children's area where no adults are allowed, and kids can purchase works for between $5 - $10, a great way to instill the collecting habit. So... bring the kids. Revenues from that all go to the Children's Cancer Center. The show is right next door to the Tampa Museum, on Ashley Drive in downtown Tampa. For low-drama parking, get there e-a-r-l-y. I recommend that and having breakfast at First Watch before walking over to the park. Or, lunch at Bamboozle Cafe on your way out. Or both. Free Admission. Saturday and Sunday, March 3rd and 4th.
