The Real Pirate Invasion: St. Pete Artists Land on Harbour Island.

Harbour Island Art Market

There were no garishly dressed men in ruffled shirts, boots and feathers. No cannons or handguns  wielded by drunks. Women did not have to flash to get attention, besides, there were no beads. It was a small scale invasion of artists from St. Pete in Tampa. One could have blinked and missed it, but I didn't. I saw this as a small but significant first step.

Under the blue tent by the channel water's edge were Derek Donnelly, John Taormina and Dan Lasata and their work. In Tampa. Dan has exhibited in group shows at the Bricks on several occasions before.

Congratulations to Derek, John and Dan for crossing the Bay and bringing some of that Saint Pete spirit over to Tampa. Both sides of he Bay need to interact much more.
