Friday, Feb 12th

The FEBRUARY group event for FAF St Pete/ Tampa Bay ... of course every Friday can be Free Art Friday!

ARTISTS: If you're interested in participating please do at your convenience--distribution is loosely concentrated in downtown st pete but you can place art wherever you like. Be sure to tag it with free art friday and your email or the web address of this group so people can post and let you know your art was found. Also feel free to post pictures on this page of your work/where it is placed.

FINDERS: Please limit yourself to 1 piece per person and let the artists know how excited you are to find their work by contacting them or posting a photo here. PLEASE I can't stress enough how much a thank you does to encourage artists to continue participating and without artists there is no FAF.

LOCATION VARIES: in general the focus is downtown st pete, between 8th street and beach drive, and between 1st ave south and 1st ave north with a concentrated effort around the 600 block of central BUT artists are free to place work wherever is in their normal paths so keep an eye out everywhere, artists can help by posting images/clues on where to look

the group URL is facebook.com/groups/FAFStPete for posting images

OF COURSE this event is merely a suggestion for those of us who like deadlines... not required, not limited to this or any specified date. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR ART WITH THE WORLD generosity is its own reward.

Join us at the Morean Glass Studio & Hot Shop and watch Jason Christian in action, showcasing his talent in the art of reticello. Standard demonstration fees apply - only $8.95 per person!

Jason is a participating artist in Italian Traditions, temporary exhibition on view at the Chihuly Collection from Jan 23 through Apr 19.

Jason Christian is a glass artist living in the Seattle area. He became involved in glass art at the age of 21 - slowly developing his glass knowledge through experience. He has worked with a variety of well-known artists in the Seattle community, including Martin Blank, Preston Singletary, James Mongraine, and Nancy Callan. For almost a decade he has been an integral member of Dale Chihuly's boathouse team, collaborating and working with international artists, including Pino Singnoretti. His individual work explores the art of reticello, classical Venetian techniques, and modern simplicity. As of recent, he has been developing art inspired by the works of Faberge- combining the delicate complexity of reticello with the intricate detailing Faberge's eggs are known for.

Additional events in conjunction with Italian Traditions:
- Artist talk with Raven Skyriver
- Artist talk with Nancy Callan
- Artist talk with John Brekke
- Make Your Own Murrine!

On Valentine's Day this year, St. Petersburg's Second Saturday ArtWalk presents over 40 galleries and studios in the Waterfront Arts, Central Arts District, The EDGE District of St. Petersburg, Grand Central District Association and the Warehouse Arts District coming together as one arts destination.

Be the first to see new affordable works of art, as ArtWalk is Opening Night where many galleries and studios premiere new works. Some are only open on ArtWalk, and many offer demonstrations and refreshments. It’s impossible to take in the entire ArtWalk in one night! Plan to drive, walk, or take the trolleys to visit the districts of your choice.

Our free trolley shuttles will have an art guide on board talking about each venue on our one continuous trolley loop that goes from the 3rd Street and Central Avenue to deep in the heart of the Warehouse Arts District. You can park for free on 1st Ave N and 1st Ave S from 15th St to 30th Street. Additional parking will be available for trolley riders in the vacant lot at the Northeast corner of Central Avenue and 29th Street (Please note that this is NOT one of our trolley stops). In addition, venues with large free parking lots are Soft Water Studios, the Morean Center for Clay at the Train Station, the Clay Center of St. Petersburg, the Florida Holocaust Museum and the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum.

Duke Energy is our sponsor. The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance, the Arts Association St. Petersburg Inc., the EDGE District, the Grand Central District, and the Warehouse Arts District associations coordinate St. Petersburg’s Second Saturday ArtWalk. The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance strives to be the community voice, the umbrella organization for the arts -- facilitating artists, arts organizations and creative businesses to work collaboratively; empowering the growth of the arts community, and driving arts-related economic development.
