[Given the emphasis on photography here recently, I thought I would mention this upcoming show]
Suzanne Williamson, photographer, photo-editor, gallery mgr., and John Capouya, non-fiction writer, author, editor, and UT professor, have teamed up on The Florida Mound Project [Link]. They are transplanted New Yorkers whose conversion into Floridians is coming along nicely, btw. Suzanne, an acclaimed photographer, immediately began a sizable project photographing the remaining Indian mounds in the state. Soon her husband joined in, writing about the experiences and creating his own parallel narrative about the process and what remains of these relatively little-known, magnificent native earthworks.
I have spoken on several occasions with the two of them about this show as it evolved. It promises to be an engaging experience on many levels.
You can see some of the pictures and read about Suzanne's process here: [Link]. The St. Petersburg Times ran a story on their work recently [Link] where you can read John's writing. The show runs OCTOBER 8 – NOVEMBER 27, 2011 at The Morean Arts Center
719 Central Avenue
