St. Petersburg's Second Saturday ArtWalk presents over 40 galleries and studios in the Waterfront Arts, Central Arts District, The EDGE District of St. Petersburg, Grand Central District Association and the Warehouse Arts District coming together as one arts destination.
Be the first to see new affordable works of art, as ArtWalk is Opening Night where many galleries and studios premiere new works. Some are only open on ArtWalk, and many offer demonstrations and refreshments. It’s impossible to take in the entire ArtWalk in one night! Plan to drive, walk, or take the trolleys to visit the districts of your choice.
Our free trolley shuttles will have an art guide on board talking about each venue on our one continuous trolley loop that goes from the 3rd Street and Central Avenue to deep in the heart of the Warehouse Arts District. You can park for free on 1st Ave N and 1st Ave S from 15th St to 30th Street. Additional parking will be available for trolley riders in the vacant lot at the Northeast corner of Central Avenue and 29th Street (Please note that this is NOT one of our trolley stops). In addition, venues with large free parking lots are Soft Water Studios, the Morean Center for Clay at the Train Station, the Clay Center of St. Petersburg, the Florida Holocaust Museum and the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum.

Florida Holocaust Museum - 55 5th Street South - The Holocaust: Artwork by Murray Zimiles. Creating much of this work in the mid-1980s, Zimiles painted representations of lost places of worship and other scenes of the Holocaust. Other art from this body of work juxtaposes familiar historic scenes of the Holocaust with domestic animals in order to symbolize the dehumanization that Jews suffered at the hands of the Nazis as well as the latter’s savagery. The Germanic Guilt Symbols: Artwork by Richard Heipp. Heipp's photorealist paintings combine personal and cultural symbols of fear and security with images taken from historic photos used in the German race propaganda of the 1930s and 40s. He works through issues of his own identity by using his likeness in the paintings layered over those of what the Nazis viewed as stereotypical Jews. St. Petersburg, FL – On Saturday, Jan 10th, John Taormina will open his solo show Sculptures Dream, Too: Studies in Conceptual Dimensionalism at ARTicles Art Gallery (1445 Central Ave, St Pete) in conjunction with the 2nd Saturday ArtWalk.
The former manager of Oleson Gallery, which closed over the summer, has new work in which he is answering seriously to a cosmic joke question, viscerally realizing he can do whatever he wants in painting and in life, in a style he has evolved to call Conceptual Dimensionalism. He’s calling it that now so people will stop calling it Cubism.
"Say you started out doing whatever you wanted, you soon develop a style that lasts for a certain amount of time. You just forget along the way, you start to follow your own patterns, even if you made them up." ~ John Taormina, on the nature of painting and doing whatever you want.
Taormina has a remarkable understanding of formal art theory — color, shape, and composition — but like anti-elites Basquiat & Rosenquist, he has absorbed significant portions of art history and reinvented the rules, yielding a dynamism that is both revelatory and street-wise. "There are rules to paintings and I don’t believe in any of them," explains Taormina.

The St. Pete Zine Fest has found a comfortable spot in the St. Petersburg literary community, and over the years has managed to bring hundreds of self-publishers and alternative press material fans out to this much-anticipated event.
This event is FREE to attend and welcomes people of all ages!
