PI Day

"Yes, the time is upon us. Everyone knows pi day is March 14th, but any true nerd realizes pi is not 3.14, but rather an irrational constant which continues infinitely in decimal expansion. Starting at 9:26:53 (.589... sec) AM, the longest extended Pi Day of our lives will come into action. The date, at the AM and PM hours, will be " 3/14/15 at 9:26:53.589. Days like this only come once in a lifetime!

It is understood 1592 was a better year. This was probably the greatest pi day in history. Every 100 years (1915, 2015, 2115 etc) come the next closest pi days. It is also understood there are other minor pi days (be creative). Yes, 22/7 is pi approximation day -- But it's not that accurate! I wrote this just for all you people who like to find missing details written in nerd events. I'm sure you'll still find more ;)

If you're a nerd, you will invite ANY other nerd you know :D

Invite all your friends and let's make this the number one nerd event on facebook ;)

Pi =
4*Sum[(-1)^i/ (2*i+1) ,{i,0, infinity}]
= 4*( 1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 + 1/9-...)

This formula can be derived using the Taylor series for arctan via integration, namely arctan[x] = integral[1/(1+t^2),{t,0,x}]
and writing 1/(1+t^2) as a geometric sum with generator -t^2.

**EDIT: Wristbands are no longer being sold due to supply restrictions. If you really want one, check out http://www.gofundme.com/pikid before the end of March!

***[link no longer has active store:***We recently have begun selling some epic wrist bands (like the yellow livestrong ones etc) that have pi day information. "Pi Day 3/14/15 9:26:53..." For more information visit http://thepidayofourlives.homestead.com/

In memory of a dear friend, Jarrod Newton... 3/14 /87 - 08/26/2011

“Learning to Fly” is a metaphor for the artist's recent re-locations throughout the United States. The show hints at the journey that she has been on. Born and raised in Minnesota, Laurie's earlier pottery focused mainly on native plants and the backyard birds that frequented her feeders. Since then she has lived in a beautiful, rural, mountainous area of northwest Georgia and currently resides in St Petersburg, FL close to amazing beaches. “When I first moved here everyone told me that I was going to have to carve fish on my pottery if I hoped to sell anything. So, I've been trying to figure out the intricacies of my new market. What to make, where to sell it, what shows are good and which galleries to approach.”
By stacking various small forms Laurie is able to create larger, quirky, sculptural statements. The artist's garden totems are based on memories of her adventures in nature. The recollection might be running through the planting rows of her grandparent's nursery, hiking in the mountains or shelling on the beach. The majority of her work starts off on the potters wheel. Forms are thrown, altered and painstakingly carved. Surface decoration is an integral part of her work. Glazing takes hours with multiple glazes specifically placed. Each piece beckons to be explored and touched.

St. Petersburg's Second Saturday ArtWalk presents over 30 galleries and studios in the Waterfront Arts, Central Arts District, The EDGE District of St. Petersburg, Grand Central District Association and the Warehouse Arts District coming together as one arts destination.

Be the first to see new affordable works of art, as ArtWalk is Opening Night where many galleries and studios premiere new works. Some are only open on ArtWalk, and many offer demonstrations and refreshments. It’s impossible to take in the entire ArtWalk in one night! Plan to drive, walk, or take the trolleys to visit the districts of your choice.

Our free trolley shuttles will have an art guide on board talking about each venue on our one continuous trolley loop that goes from the 3rd Street and Central Avenue to deep in the heart of the Warehouse Arts District. You can park for free on 1st Ave N and 1st Ave S from 15th St to 30th Street. Additional parking will be available for trolley riders in the vacant lot at the Northeast corner of Central Avenue and 29th Street (Please note that this is NOT one of our trolley stops). In addition, venues with large free parking lots are Soft Water Studios, the Morean Center for Clay at the Train Station, the Clay Center of St. Petersburg, the Florida Holocaust Museum and the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum.

Duke Energy is our sponsor. The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance, the Arts Association St. Petersburg Inc., the EDGE District, the Grand Central District, and the Warehouse Arts District associations coordinate St. Petersburg’s Second Saturday ArtWalk. The St. Petersburg Arts Alliance strives to be the community voice, the umbrella organization for the arts -- facilitating artists, arts organizations and creative businesses to work collaboratively; empowering the growth of the arts community, and driving arts-related economic development.

Nodz paints and illustrates with pen and ink, watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, and digitally with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. His art is versatile, with no one style, but many different styles: Anti-Complacency.

Don't miss this night featuring one of the 'Burg's veteran artists.
