2011 Arts Person of The Year: Malcolm Johnson

I am happy to announce that Art Taco's 2011 Arts Person of the Year is Malcolm Johnson. Malcolm is a documentary photographer and arts activist who has been around the Pinellas scene for decades, quietly supporting the arts, putting on some events, and guiding others to fruition. He publishes a series of 'zines on the arts that are concise, beautifully written, and informative. Check the zine rack at Rambling Rose Upcycle at 683 Central Ave St Pete for his publications. Amongst them is the Cyclist's Guide to St Pete Public Art, the blueprint for a perfect day in St. Pete.

In his collection, there are thousands of documentary photographs of events, murals, people, and more. He also has  detailed, organized newspaper clippings on the arts. The reason I chose Malcom Johnson for Man of the Year is that he is a living cultural treasure, someone who has lovingly devoted a large part of his life to the arts here and knows the history as no one else does.

Thank you, Malcolm.
