This Dark Knight Rises Weekend, July 20th-22nd

The Cool Art Show @ The Coliseum - This is one of those indoor shows that is just right. Not too big or small, in a roomy air conditioned venue and good quality. It is the 24th anniversary for the Cool Art Show. Eighty artists will be exhibiting.

This Friday Rebecca Skelton, Sarah Thee Campagna and Bruce Ferguson will be on JoEllen Schilkie's Art in Your Ear radio show 3:00 - 4:00 PM on WMNF 88.5 on your FM dial talking about the show.

The show runs this Saturday, July 21st and Sunday, July 22nd, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. While there, take the stairs an check out the balcony view. Free admission.

In Passing: Cellpics @ Cafe Hey - Six artists show their iphone photos at Cafe Hey, which has a great Open Mic night on Thursdays, btw. 1540 N. Franklin St. Tampa. Opens Friday, July 20th 7-11 PM. Free admission. Treat yourself to a coffee, soup and/or sandwich, not to mention the baked goods. Cafe Hey is a great place to hang.

Artists of the Oriente East Cuba Cultural Exchange Exhibit @ Nuance -  Cuba is short and wide. The Easternmost province, Oriente, has played a major part in Cuban (and US) history in spite or because of its distance from Havana. Nuance Galleries is opening a show on artists from the Oriente province on Saturday, July 14th, at Nuance, 2924 Central Ave. St. Pete, 6-9 PM. Free Admission. It then reappears at Union Marti-Maceo in Ybor City on July 28th, 7-11 PM for a fundraiser ($25 admission).Afterwards, it travels to Nuance in Tampa, 804 S. Dale Mabry Hwy. Tampa, on August 2nd, from 6-9 PM.  Free admission.

Gulfport Art Walk - This event is a romantic, wonderful way to spend an evening in a seaside town that retains much of its old-school Floridian personality. Lots of crafts, arts, now with buskers, magicians, jugglers, actors and great music. With plenty of bars and restaurants for every budget. Saturday, July 21st, 6-10 PM.

Crochet Coral Reef @ Florida Craftsmen Gallery - This is a stunning collaboration between 280 artists, one that always draws viewers to the windows even when closed. This is also something children love. One of the most unique and beautiful installations in the area in a long time. Stripped Bare and Bathed @ Dali Museum - A rare chance to see how art is preserved at this museum. Through Sept 9th. Dali prints are also being shown. All at Bayshore Drive SE and Fifth Ave. Admission is $21 for adults. $10 admission after 5 PM on Thursdays.

Florida Museum of Photographic Arts - The Brassai show, which I reviewed here: [Link], and the Member's Show, which I need to see ASAP. 400 N. Ashley St,, Tampa. Admission $10.00. Tues. - Sat. 10 AM - 5 PM. 10 AM - 8 PM Friday, and Noon to 5 PM Sunday.

Glassy - Eyed: Global + Local @ Museum of Fine Arts St Pete - An excellent overview of fine arts glass from many artists around the world, and locally as well. They also have a show of Soviet Era photographs (if you go, look up Farm Security Administration photos before heading out, there's interesting similarities and differences).  MFA St. Pete, 255 Bech Drive, St. Pete. Admission $ 17.00. Bring plenty of quarters for the 2 hr parking, and keep an eye on the time. I've paid dearly for failing to do so.

Trashion Fashion Art Party @ Artpool - Fashions from upcycled materials. Runway show at 10 PM. $20 in advance (go to Artpool's site), $25 at the door, and $45 for VIP seating. Artpool Gallery 2030 Central Ave. St. Petersburg. 8 PM Saturday, July 21st.
