Tracing vs Drawing

This sounds like a not-so-healthy approach. But it brings up a subtle but critical issue in this era where people tend to trace instead of drawing. Besides all the factors concerning the significance of drawing, the stereotypical graphic look, etc., what concerns me most is the loss of the effects of stereotaxic vision. I'm not saying it is required, but that cameras and screens "see" very differently than human eyes do. Of course, since people spend a huge percentage of their time looking at simulations of reality (camera-derived imagery) they may not be able to tell the difference. An art-buddy, now dead, and I used to play a game at outdoor art shows back in the '80s to see if we could guess whether it was drawn from reality or from a photograph.

mmmm
