The only woman in the original group of Abstract Expressionists, and the last one left alive, Hedda Sterne has passed away at 100. She was one of the first, along with Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Barnett Newman, Robert Motherwell, Clifford Still, and others, and outlived them all. Her last exhibit was in 2008. She reportedly remained lucid until the end.

Sterne's work has never received the attention that the men Abstract Expressionists [Link] did, but I have a feeling that may be about to change.
