Pussy Riot Verdict Challenged

Russia has an Ombudsman, who speaks on the side of the common man. Vladimir Lukin, woh was appointed by Putin, said of the sentences of two years of hard labor handed down to the three members of Pussy Riot:

"It is a misdemeanor that in a normal, civilized European state, which Russia is, is handled in administrative rather than criminal proceedings. That's why I think the ruling on those women is excessive"

The Orthodox Church has asked for the state to grant mercy to Pussy Riot. The case is going to be appealed. It is hoped that the sentence will be reduced.

Two years of hard labor for singing in church? Really?
