From September 3 through 13, the Centre Gallery at the University of South Florida will host Processing by Christina Humphreys. Visitors to the gallery will be exposed to paintings that reference photography, digital technology, and memory.

The paintings in this exhibition are inspired by physical photographs and digital photographic processes. Humphreys is interested in the intangibility of memories, and how humans document and store memories through photography. Her paintings emphasize the abstraction of memory while clinging to the desire for permanence of a time or place. Processing consists of a collection of oil on canvas paintings which aims to develop a personal connection between the paintings and their relationship to technology and memory.

Christina Humphreys is a USF alumni with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, recently graduated in May 2013. She plans on continuing her studies by pursuing an MFA, as well as continuing to contribute to the art community and working alongside other artists and galleries.

DessART, Centre Gallery’s opening reception for the show, will be on September 3 from 12 to 1pm. The closing reception for Processingwill be held from 7 to 9pm on Friday, September 13, in the Centre Gallery. The Centre Gallery is located on the second floor of the Marshall Student Center in room 2700, 4202 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa, Fla. It is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 11am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
