This Christmas Weekend, Dec 23rd -25th

The Christmas countdown is closing. You're ready, right? Everything's done, the relatives are on their way. In the arts scene, only Bleau Acier is stirring, and will be open through tomorrow. 109 W. Columbus Dr.

On Christmas Day, if you can achieve escape velocity from the ritual, about the only things going on are movies.

Before and after, it's a perfect time to go to a museum. None are open on Christmas day.

Symbols of Strangeness @ Dali Museum - Many other Dali works as well are on display. Their hours are too complex to list here, but you're safe by going between Noon and 5 PM. They're open Dec 26th to the 28th. Admission, $21, $19 Seniors, $15 Students & children 13-17. One Dali Boulevard, (Bayshore Drive and Fifth Ave SE). St. Pete.

Egypt in Photographs and Artifacts @ Museum of Fine Art - Forty photographs from the Orientalist period of Egypt by some of its most famous photographers in the upstairs gallery. Downstairs, Ancient Egypt, Art and Magic, a supremely interesting collection of art and artifacts which I had the pleasure of viewing last week. Pay attention to the dates and how the art developed. This is also a great example of how a very rigid aesthetic does not necessarily restrict the range of expresssion. These are great exhibits which I personally recommend. 10 AM - 5 PM Tuesday, Wed and Sat. 10AM-4PM Friday, 1-5 PM Sunday. 255 Beach Drive, St Pete. Admission: $17, $15 Seniors, $10 Students.

Bud Lee's America and Dianora Niccolini @ Florida Museum of Photographic Arts - One of Tampa's most infuential arts figures and a great photographer, Bud Lee's humanist philosophy and incisive eye are not to be missed. 10 AM - 5 PM Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. 10 AM - 8 PM Friday. Noon-5PM Sunday. Closed Monday. 200 N.Tampa St.

Realism and Janet Biggs Video installations Tampa Museum of Art (TMA)- I've seen both shows, and they're good. Don't forget they have free admission on Fridays, between 4-8 PM.120 W. Gasparilla Plaza, downtown Tampa. $ 10 admission.

Don't forget, all the Museums are closed on Christmas day.

Merry Christmas to all!
